Position Title: Varnisher
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Chief Engineer
Principal Responsibilities & Position Purpose
Maintains and repairs painted, wall-covered, stained, and varnished surfaces of building structures, furniture, and equipment throughout the facility in order to project a neat and well-maintained appearance.
Essential Functions

40% – Prepares and varnishes surfaces of building structures, furniture, and equipment using proper application techniques. Measures lengths of surfaces to determine the quantity of varnish needed. Plasters or spackles surfaces, mixes varnish colors to match existing finishes, and applies varnish to all building and equipment surfaces with brushes, rollers, and spray guns.

20% – Installs and repairs covered wall and ceiling surfaces throughout the facility. Hangs vinyl, paper, fabric, and foil wall coverings of various weights.

20% – Maintains and repairs caulked, grouted, and masonry surfaces. Includes caulking, grouting, plastering, and setting tiles, cinder block/brick, and cement work.

15% – Prepares and maintains wood surfaces requiring staining, varnishing, and lacquering. Applies alcohol or water stains and develops a finished product from unstained wood or existing finished wood.

Maintains inventory of supplies needed to perform job functions.

Reports major repairs and items that cannot be repaired to superiors for further action.

Performs other related duties as assigned by a superior.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong knowledge of varnish and related products, including application and mixing procedures.

Working knowledge of basic hand tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, scrapers, sandpaper, spray guns, and lifts.

Knowledge of OSHA standards for working with chemicals.

Basic English communication skills to understand job assignments, read instructions, and adhere to safety warnings.
Qualification Standards

Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

Experience: Basic experience in varnishing and wall covering techniques.
Grooming/Uniforms

Must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance. Uniform guidelines will be provided during orientation.

The position requires flexibility to work seven days a week, 24 hours a day, as per business needs.
