Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER) is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals requiring urgent and emergency treatment. The nurse will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care in a fast-paced environment, adhering to the standards and regulations of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ).
Key Responsibilities:
- Triage and Initial Assessment:
- Perform rapid assessment and prioritisation of patients using the Australasian Triage Scale (ATS).
- Recognise and respond to life-threatening situations promptly.
- Patient Care:
- Deliver evidence-based nursing care to patients with acute illnesses or trauma.
- Administer medications and intravenous therapies in accordance with scope of practice and hospital policies.
- Monitor patients’ conditions and vital signs, and respond to changes effectively.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Collaborate with medical and allied health teams to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Accurately document all aspects of care in electronic medical records (e.g., eMR, MediRecords, or equivalent systems).
- Provide emotional support to patients and families during critical situations.
- Infection Control and Safety:
- Follow strict protocols on hygiene, infection control, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use.
- Ensure compliance with ACSQHC (Australia) or HQSCNZ (New Zealand) standards.
- Professional Development:
- Participate in continuing education and maintain current competencies in emergency nursing practices.
- Engage in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent qualification.
- Postgraduate qualification in Emergency Nursing (preferred but not mandatory).
- Registration:
- Current registration with AHPRA (Australia) or NCNZ (New Zealand).
- Eligibility for working rights in Australia or New Zealand.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience in an emergency or acute care setting.
- Experience with trauma, resuscitation, and high-acuity patient care preferred.
- Certifications (Preferred/Required):
- Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Triage Training
- Skills:
- Strong clinical judgement and decision-making skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems.
Working Conditions:
- Rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Physically demanding role with exposure to emotionally challenging situations.
- Adherence to hospital PPE and occupational health protocols.
Salary:
- Australia: AUD $70,000 – $100,000 per annum (plus shift allowances, depending on experience and location).
- New Zealand: NZD $65,000 – $95,000 per annum (as per MECA agreements and location).
Visa & Immigration (for Overseas Nurses):
- Australia: Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage), 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme), or 189 (Skilled Independent)
