Job Description
Role Summary:
The Registered Nurse – OT/OR is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. They play a key role in pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care and work closely with surgeons, anesthetists, and surgical teams to ensure patient safety and successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Operative Duties:
- Prepare operating room and equipment before procedures.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort before surgery.
- Review patient history, consent forms, and pre-op checklists.
Intra-Operative Duties:
- Act as Scrub Nurse, Circulating Nurse, or Scout Nurse.
- Maintain aseptic techniques and sterile fields.
- Handle surgical instruments and supplies.
- Monitor patient’s vital signs and respond to intra-operative needs.
Post-Operative Duties:
- Assist in patient recovery and transfer to PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit).
- Monitor for complications and provide post-op care instructions.
- Document nursing care and surgical notes.
Administrative & Other Duties:
- Maintain patient records and documentation.
- Adhere to infection control policies.
- Participate in audits, quality assurance, and staff training.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent qualification.
Registration:
- Australia: Registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).
- New Zealand: Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ).
Experience:
- 3–5 years of recent OT/OR nursing experience preferred.
- Experience with a wide range of surgical specialties is an advantage.
Skills:
- Strong clinical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficient with electronic health records and hospital systems.
Salary Range
Australia:
- AUD $70,000 – $100,000 per year
(Based on experience, location, and public/private sector)
New Zealand:
- NZD $65,000 – $95,000 per year
(Depending on DHB level, seniority, and region)
